when someone close to you or someone you care about tells you their predicament and there is nothing that you can do for them. && you being to feel like a bad friend because the more they get upset, the more you feel helpless ya damn self.. shhheeesh! =\
i dont think there was ever a movie that this man has made that i have not fallen in love with!
Born in the ATL but raise in Ft. Greene area of Brooklyn, Spike was always an innovative youth. He graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of Arts. His films have transcended generations and brought about issues such as african american sexuality, racial tensions, sports, family, love and stereotypes.
Among my favs are:
Do the Right Thing(weeelll duh!)
Inside Man (YES that was a spike lee joint!)
She Gotta Have It(fave!)
Miracle At St. Anna(you must see this!!!!! they got it on netflix i think)
and these are just the movies i can think of off the top of the dome.
He has been responsible for starting the career’s of many superstars now including: Denzel Washington, Kerry Washington, Mekhi Phifer, and Anna Paquin (TRUE BLOOD!!)
His innovative and captivating work is nothing short of brilliant. no matter your age you can relate to the theme, because the issues are soo clearly present. Just LOVE me some Spike Lee!
oh! && the reason i posted this is because im doing my analytical film paper on him so just thought i share! \(^_^)/
Lauryn Hill’s “I Get Out” is a song that represents so much about me and how I am starting to think and feel about certain things. This is one of them songs that just hit you in your soul.. raptures your inner core. gives you one of them serious self-thought moments like damn.. that was real.. let me break it down some of the bars that just give me chills up my spine.
I wont support your lies no more/ I won’t even try no more/ If I have to die, oh Lord/ That’s how I choose to live/I won’t be compromised no more/ I can’t be victimised no more/ I just don’t sympathize no more/ Cause now I understand
Knowin’ my condition is the reason I must change
I don’t respect your system/ I won’t protect your system/ When you talk I don’t listen/ Oh, let my Father’s will be done
The only way to know is to walk… then learn and grow
Just get out/ Of this social purgatory/ Just get out/ All these traditions are a lie/ Just get out/ Superstition killing freedom/ Knowin’ my condition/ Is the reason I must die
The song as a whole is really about the politcal world that we live in. Living in this quasi-social boxes that we feel stuck in.. the rules that society demands of us to live by.. But Lauryn urges us to GET OUT
But I take this song as an anthem when it comes to relationships, whether romantic or in general (family/friends). Dont let anyone tell you how you should feel, No feeling is wrong, there is no such thing as politically correct when it comes to self value. There should be no boundaries placed on your potential.. JUST GET OUT
Remember how you view yourself. know your position in the universe. know that the Almighty has created you perfectly for your purpose and you can never go wrong with yourself.
So i have to thank Ms. Hill for this powerful lyric poem that just makes me say "sheesh!!"
After watching the documentary entitled “GOOD HAIR” by Chris Rock a while back I became more and more interested in the “hair culture” of a COLORED woman. Some my say i am being dramatic by calling it a “culture” but, that word alone doesn’t fully represent the journey a girl, young lady, lady,…
I want you to love me
Let me love you
I dont wanna dance with ghosts
Snuggle lovers.. I made up in my drunkenness
Lemme love you
Just like i am
A Colored Girl
I’m finally bein real
No longer symmetrical and impervious to pain

some women choose to follow men, some women choose to follow their dreams, if your wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up one day and tell you it doesnt love you anymore ♥ - Lady GaGa
On October 22nd 2009 We wore black in support of the families of the boys whose lives were taken from us because they were black. Today October 19th 2010 wearing purple is more than just “for the teens who committed suicide.” Wearing purple is in support of ending bullying, especially…
Our prestigious mayor.. Michael Bloomberg is the 10th wealthiest man in America.. with the net worth of 18 billion dollars. Now the question is why would a man with so much wealth and power be soo enthralled in politics? The answer is of course is power. His greed is soo disturbing.. He BOUGHT his way to a third term.. Claiming that only he alone could pull NY out of its poor economic situation.. Umm last time I checked the WHOLE country was in financial turmoil… So how the hell did he get a 3rd term like 1, 2, 3?? And the bigger upset is that he was voted back into office as if the people of new york had a choice (his competition was a no-name senator ) AND since he’s been in office:
TAP has been drastically cut
Fat taxes have been implemented (taxes on soda, salt, tobacco) which to me is imposing on people’s right to choose..
Then we have the whole MTA crap (that will be a whole other post entirely)
Don’t get me wrong some of his programs have done some substantial good as far as reforming education, legalizing gay marriage, pro-choice n all that jive but I’m still uncomfortable w his position If this isn’t enough for someone to go out there and vote.. Then I don’t know what is!.. This is a prime example why its soooo important to vote and the know the issues.. Because it does affect YOU.. More than you know.. Not just the presidential.. But every government election has a direct effect to your everyday lives..
Don’t be a hardrock when you’re really a gem
Babygirl, respect is just a minimum
Niggas fucked up and you still defending them
Now Lauryn is only human
Don’t think I haven’t been through the same predicament ♥
In this day and age shit has gotten totally out of hand. We have a mayor buying his way into office, tuition assistance is being cut in half, MTA rides cost more than my round trip flight to boston and a prostitute is running for governor of NY… and this is just in NY alone. If you have always been the type to think that politics never mattered to you.. believe me you need to think again. We are only ants in this shit.. But we need to represent for the bigger picture. So Come Politically Correct n Get hip!
